Rancher Labs is seeking a talented Software Engineer to join our development team. We build open source software that addresses the operational and security challenges of managing cloud native platforms like Kubernetes, while providing DevOps teams with integrated tools for running containerized workloads. Our flagship product Rancher has over 100 million downloads to-date and is managing mission critical services at Fortune 500 companies and many other organizations large and small around the world.

Our ideal candidate is passionate about building tools and software that improves the experience of developing, deploying, and managing software applications. They can adapt to change quickly and are excited to make a big impact at a rapidly growing startup. We are hiring across all experience levels.

Job responsibilities include:

  • Designing and developing features and enhancements in Go for our core Rancher product or variety of open source projects such as k3s, Rio, and Longhorn
  • Collaborating with open source users, customers, and our product management team to enhance existing products and create the next generation of our cloud-native platform
  • Assisting our world-class support team and active open source community to solve real-world DevOps problems
  • Working closely with teammates in design, code, and test-plan reviews to help build robust software and foster knowledge sharing
  • Becoming an expert in cutting-edge cloud technologies such as (but not limited to): Kubernetes, Prometheus, and Istio
  • Implementing and maintaining meaningful tests written in Go and Python
  • Participating in and contributing to agile methodologies and best practices
  • Fostering growth and engagement in our open source community by interacting with users through our Slack channels, GitHub issues, and forums

The ideal candidate has:

  • A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, a closely related field, or equivalent work experience
  • A passion for learning and adopting new technologies
  • The ability to take ownership of tasks and see them through to completion
  • The ability to troubleshoot and debug challenging problems in complex distributed systems
  • Experience with or ability to learn the Go programming language
  • Experience with or ability to learn Kubernetes and other cloud native technologies
  • Experience with or ability to learn public cloud platforms such as AWS and Azure
  • Experience with or ability to learn Linux
