Intro to Kubernetes on Rancher 2.0 Q & A

Q: Is there a guide on how to deploy the Kubernetes Dashboard on Rancher 2.0 similar to the one that was available on Rancher 1.6?

A: Jan Bruder said there is and will try to show how through the catalog and Helm charts.

Q: How to provide a correct SSL certificate to rancher ?

A: Jan Bruder answered in this demo.

Q: How to limit a node to a specific workload ?

A: Jan Bruder answered in this demo.

A: Jan Bruder answered in this demo.

Q: Longhorn is working fine! Installed from git.

A: Great! Thanks for letting us know!

Q: Can we use Centos 7.5 when available? Jan Bruder said that we usually do support Centos and he’s not sure about the 7.5 version. Ask again on slack.rancher.io for more help.

A: Jan Bruder answered in this demo.

Q: Can we use Centos now (ie; version 7.4)?

A: I’m not sure. I’ll have Jan answer at the next break for Q&As.

Q: Is there a capability (or plans for) for deploying a workload across all managed clusters registered in Rancher?

A: Jan Bruder answered in this demo.

Q: Is there any integration with Microsoft (Windows server) DNS during/for node deployment? (This is tightly linked to AD support I guess)

A: Jan Bruder answered in this demo.

Q: Hi, So Swarm won’t be supported from rancher 2.0?

A: That’s right, Swarm is not supported in Rancher 2.0. Because of the popularity and stability of Kubernetes, among other reasons, we decided to solely focus on Kubernetes as a container orchestrator.

Q: When you deploy an EC2 cluster do you need to configure cluster.yml or is it configured automatically for you?

A: Jan Bruder answered this and if you still have more questions about the cluster.yml file, please ask.

Q: I am using Catle Cluster in Rancher 1.6. If I spin up a new container I will not be able to execute shell either from gui or from cli. The shell appears for less than a second and dissapears.

A: Jan Bruder answered this and since this training focuses on Rancher 2.0, we may not be able to help much more. Try the Rancher Forums

Q: In Rancher 1.x there is a catalog app for generating lets encrypt certificates that can be used with the load balancer. Is there any similiar functionality in 2.0 to easily generate, renew, and use lets encrypt certificates with your apps?

A: Jan Bruder answered in this demo.

Q: Is there a way for rancher to persist generated yml to some VC repository like Bitbucket?

A: Jan Bruder answered in this demo.

Q: We use docker-compse; is there a way to migrate all containers to Rancher?

A: Jan Bruder answered in this demo.
